Sore & Strep Throat Testing

We're committed to providing you with rapid assessment and treatment to feel better fast.

Overview

Only a rapid strep test or throat culture can determine if a sore throat needs antibiotics.1 Strep throat is an infection in the throat and tonsils caused by bacteria called group A Streptococcus (group A strep). People who are infected spread the bacteria by coughing or sneezing, which creates small droplets that contain the bacteria. Rapid strep test can help determine if group A strep is the cause. A rapid strep test involves swabbing the throat and running a test on the swab. If medically necessary, our pharmacists can prescribe antibiotics to help lessen the severity and prevent complications such as rheumatic fever.

As part of our commitment to providing quality care to our patients, pharmacists at Kroger Health can now evaluate your sore throat, including testing for group A strep and prescribing medications, as appropriate, in all Idaho and Michigan pharmacies. Your Kroger Health pharmacist will review strep throat medication options and work with you to select an effective medication that best fits you.
